WCJDA board looking ahead to 2027; tours two local projects
The Walsh County JDA Board met in May and June with preparations for 2027 and beyond among its action items.
The JDA’s 2027 preliminary budget was approved by the board for the May preliminary budget hearing with the Walsh County Commission. The JDA requested $286,123 from Walsh County to support projects and staff. This represents the maximum four mills Counties can levy for economic development.
Included in the preliminary budget was the renewal of a 3-year contract with the Red River Regional Council (RRRC) for staff. The JDA first entered into a contract with the RRRC in 2023, with that contract expiring at the end of this year. The new contract will cover Jan. 1, 2027 through Dec. 31, 2029.
Tours of local businesses and projects are incorporated into the regular JDA meetings during warmer months. Recent tours included:
- The Reyleck: Currently under construction in Grafton, the JDA provided cash match for the $1.6 million federal EDA grant which helped propel this project forward. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027, and the Walsh County JDA and RRRC offices will relocate to this space.
- Xperience Health & Fitness, Grafton: Owners Garret and Darcy Reis provided a tour of their impressive 24/7 facility. Having largely renovated the building themselves, this is the fifth Xperience location, the first in Walsh County. The Reis’ operate Xperience Health & Fitness locations in Pembina and Drayton, and Karlstad and Hallock in MN. Services at the Grafton location include gym, weight, and cardio spaces; red light therapy; and youth athletic camps. There are a couple of office suites available to rent as well.
- Crave N It, LLC: is located in the center atrium of Xperience Health & Fitness. Owner Shelley Wippler provided refreshments for the board while sharing about her business and how it compliments Xperience’s services.
